General Binding Options

Body Binding

Binding is applied to the edge of a body to add definition and contrast. It is a great way to enhance the appearance of a guitar or bass body. Let our quality binding work add a distinguished look to your next dream guitar. We rout a groove around the edge of the body and then glue the binding into the groove. After the glue has cured, the binding is scraped and sanded smooth and flush with the body. A fair amount of labor is involved in this process and it takes a skilled hand and an eye for detail. Our binding material measures about 0.090" thick by 0.25" tall (2.3mm x 6.3mm)

On Flat Top Bodies

Flat top bodies with square edges are the easiest to bind. Binding is not available on bodies with forarm contours! For instance, if you wanted binding on a Strat® body we would have to omit the forarm contour and rounded edge radius to achieve the square, flat edge all the way around.

Binding On Carved Top Bodies
	Carved top bodies are much more challenging to bind because the cut becomes three dimentional. We only offer carved top binding on the LP and VIP carved top bodies at this time.

*Available for Laminate Tops Only. Masked, mock or natural binding is a paint process which offers the appearance of binding but is really only the underlying wood left unpainted or unstained. The process is to mask off the edges of the top wood, then spray or dye the body. The mask is then removed before shooting the clear coats. A dark color for the body gives the most contrast.

Plastic Binding
For bodies with plastic binding, add $30.00 per side to the body finish price.

Pinstripe Accent Line

The pinstripe is simply a contrasting color sandwiched between the top wood and the body wood. The stripe is about 0.030" thick. We offer a black stripe made of a fiber, or a white stripe which is made of maple. This is not available on Hollow bodies.
