The New Gotoh Side-Adjuster
for Warmoth Pro Guitar Necks

To make truss rod set-up and adjustment more convenient, Warmoth "Pro" Construction necks feature the Gotoh side adjustment mechanism. Inserted between the usual truss rod adjustment nut at the heel and the truss rod, this ingenious device uses inclines and wedges to adjust the rod tension. Initial set-up is still accomplished at the traditional butt end but future small adjustments are then conveniently done on the side of the neck.

Unfortunately Gotoh does not offer these mechanisms left handed. Lefty Warmoth "Pro" necks only offer heel adjustments on straight necks, and peg-head adjustments on angled necks.

For easy and convenient truss rod adjustment

The factory setting is with the side adjustment mechanism centered within its operating range. To adjust your neck for the first time, use the following steps:

Neck Adjustment Procedure
  1. Tighten the slotted heel-adjust nut (See A) until the fingerboard is perfectly flat (has no forward curve.) This should cause the side adjust nut to be recessed into the heel approximately 1/16" (1.6mm).
  2. Attach the neck and tune the strings to pitch.
  3. Detune strings and make necessary relief adjustment using side-adjust nut
(See B) and supplied allen wrench. Repeat as necessary.
Caution!

  • Never loosen side-adjust nut so far that it protrudes from the side of the neck. If it is completely removed, it may be very difficult to re-install.
  • Never adjust the neck under full string tension - always de-tune the strings first.
  • Only moderate force is required to operate the side-adjust nut. It is possible to damage the side-adjust nut by applying excessive force after the nut has stopped at the bottom of its travel (the nut would be recessed approximately 1/4" at this point.) If there is a large amount of resistance in the side-adjust nut and it is recessed STOP and re-set the nut as outlined below.
  • Fully tightening the side-adjuster so that it stops will lock the action of the heel-adjust nut. Do not attempt to tighten the heel nut while the side nut is locked.

Most necessary relief adjustments can be accomplished using only the side adjust nut. If you have completely tightened or loosened the side adjust nut and still need to make further adjustments, you may need to reset the side adjuster by removing the neck and using the following steps:

Side-Adjust Reset Procedure

  1. Completely loosen the slotted heel-adjust nut.
  2. Turning clockwise, tighten side-adjust nut until it stops.
  3. Back side-adjust nut out 7 (seven) complete turns. This will center it in its best operating range.
  4. Tighten heel-adjust nut until fingerboard is perfectly flat (has no forward curve.)
  5. Attach neck and tune to pitch. Detune strings and make necessary relief adjustment with side-adjust nut. Repeat as necessary.
