Great Drop-In Replacement for Fener Bridges
The Gotoh 201 is a fantastic drop-in replacement for the traditional Fender "bent metal" standard bass bridge used on countless basses throughout the years. I purchased one while upgrading a 2002 MIM Jazz Bass, and the change was immediately noticeable in terms of attack, sustain, and comfort - the Gotoh has lots of rounded surfaces that makes resting your hand on it while playing pickstyle FAR more comfortable than the stock bridge. While I no longer own that bass, the bridge upgrade was one of my first ideas and one of the best, adding a significant improvement to a bass that became overall far more than what it started out as. I'd highly recommend it for this purpose, or for use in a custom bass that's staying more "Traditional" than "Modern" but won't slavishly hold to any type of "period standard".

Drop-in upgrade for Yamaha RBX-264
RBX-264's specs:
Alder body, p-bass passive pickups, maple 4 bolt neck w/rosewood fretboard, D'Addario Chrome Flatwounds (medium gauge).
I use the RBX-264 for:
Jazz, Funk, Soul, R&B, and Gospel.
Mechanics:
The 201 is a direct-drop-in upgrade from the Fender-style 5 hole bridge, and was a snap to adjust the intonation and action. Adds nice mass for better balance, and the slots in the base provide much better stability (eliminates lateral movement).
Sound:
Transforms this under-rated bass into a very versatile instrument. Tone is improved (much fuller), as is the attack and sustain.
5 Stars for quality, price, and effectiveness.

great tone. great value.
Put one of these on my '83 Ibanez Roadstar II bass. It was loud acoustically before with a solid ash body and one piece maple neck, but it's considerably louder now. Much improved sustain. Impressive. Notes ring out forever. SOOO much better than the stock F**der style that was on there. Looked at tons of bridges with a 5 screw pattern(no extra drilling required) and nothing else compared for the price. With the badass II you still need to have a luthier set it up after install to groove the saddles! Probably an extra $25-40. Not so with this bridge. For $38 with shipping this is a STEAL!

Clearer and Louder with Better Sustain
I installed this on an SX Jazz Bass copy ($160 bass) with stock pickups and it immediately made a significant improvement in the tone and sustain. It also made the bass louder. Each note seems to be significantly clearer. There's more punch without being too much. It took just a few minutes to replace the stock bridge and it fit perfectly without any need to drill more holes. So far this is the only modification that I've made to this bass. I bought this bass with the intention of replacing the pickups and the bridge but the bridge made such a big difference that now I'm not sure I need to replace the P/Us. This is definitely an effective and relatively cheap upgrade to the stock bridge. I was going to buy the Bad Ass bridge but thought that it didn't make sense to spend so much money on such a cheap bass. The Gotoh was half the price and seems to achieve the same goal. It also enhanced the look of the bass in my opinion.

A Must Have upgrade
Installed 2 of these: one on a MIM P Bass, and the other on a Japan J Bass (along with new pickups, and preamp). Noticed a clear difference in sustain and clarity. Also helped the overal balance of the instrument. Everything feels more solid.
For $30, this is the best upgrade you can make to your Fender bass. Well worth the money. Also a better value than the Badass and possibly the Hipshot, but in fairness, I haven't tried either of those brands.
