Gecko 5 String Neck
Gecko 5’s are made in three different sizes to suit your specific needs.
|
The "Small" Gecko 5
- Nut width: 1 7/8" (47.6mm)
- Width at 24th fret: 2 7/8" (73.0mm)
- String Pitch @ The Bridge: 11/16" (17.5mm)
String spacing at the nut is the same as found on a Jazz Bass® - very comfortable. This neck compliments the popular Music Man
Dimensioned Pickups. This tighter spacing also feels great for pick players or people with smaller hands.
|
The "Medium" Gecko 5
- Nut width: 1 7/8" (47.6mm)
- Width at 24th fret: 3" (76.2mm)
- String Pitch @ The Bridge: 3/4" (19.0mm)
This neck features generous right hand spacing and a fairly narrow nut for fingerstyle players wanting the versatility of a low B
without a huge neck. Fretted notes are easily within reach of the left hand, but there’s still room for traditional fingerstyle
technique. The best of both worlds in a comfortable package.
|
The "Wide" Gecko 5
- Nut width: 2 3/16" (55.5mm)
- Width at 24th fret: 3 1/8" (79.4mm)
- String Pitch @ The Bridge: 3/4" (19.0mm)
This is the "thunder lizard" of the bunch! Think of it as a P-Bass® with an extra string grafted on. Finger-style players will like
the old-school feel, and slappers will love the extra room to dig in between strings at the end of the neck. Like the 6-String Gecko,
the extra wide heel gets an extra two neck bolts for additional stability. Two truss rods are used to provide optimum action on each string.

All standard Gecko bass necks feature 5-piece laminated construction (using bubinga or purpleheart for the lam depending on availability), 35" scale and 24 fret fingerboards. Each neck has been fine sanded,
and dipped in a penetrating sealer, ready for final spray finishing. Through holes are drilled .551" (14mm) for Gotoh tuning machines.
Neck mounting holes are also predrilled. #2069A frets are installed (.110" wide x .050" tall.) A black truss rod cover and screws are
provided. Please see the paint & finish section for finishing options. If you prefer a blank fingerboard, we can omit the Gecko
inlay for an additional $35.

Example of a Wenge Laminate Neck |
The Gecko series bass necks feature an asymmetric back shape for a more comfortable, fast feeling. These necks "feel" thin, but retain
sufficient bulk for strength and tone. The asymmetric back shape keeps perceived neck bulk down for maximum hand comfort and to create
a thinner, fast feeling neck. The bass side of the neck is thicker, with the treble side being thinner. Your thumb will find easy
reference as your hand glides up and down the neck. This is a very comfortable neck to play.
|
NOTE: All Gecko necks are available fretted or fretless at the same price. Unlined fretless necks have the side position markers moved to the exact fret positions, rather than between them.
Fretless Line Option

Contrasting strips of wood inlaid into the fretless fingerboard at
the usual fret positions. Maple lines are used in dark fingerboard woods, black
lines are used on maple. Additional $105

Peghead Veneer:
A laminate added to the front of the peghead to match the body for a more consistent look. Available in most top woods.
