Star Artist - Dustin Kensrue

Dustin Kensrue

Dustin Kensrue is not the typical "Rock Star" personality that makes the news. He's a gracious and humble guy, led by his faith and a superhuman amount of musical creativity. From fronting the hugely influential Thrice rock band to a thriving solo career, along with his multiple bands and recordings, he is a busy individual. When you hear Dustin live or on a recording, most likely he's playing one of his Jaguar or Telecaster replacement bodies by Warmoth.

Jaguar Celebrates 50 Years

Jaguar Bodies

The year was 1962. Fender introduced a new guitar. One that combined the sleek Jazzmaster body style and elaborate control layout with a shorter scale. It also had smaller, brighter pickups with more output. The Jaguar hasn't taken over the guitar world, but it has been impactful. A hot rodded, Surf Rock staple of the 1960s, it came back into fashion in the mid 1970s. In the 1980s, many would say it was the guitar that created the offbeat vibe for a new sound. Punk, post punk, grunge and alt indie guitar artists pushed the Jag beyond its previous boundaries.

Nirvana, Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine, Pixies, Television, the Flaming Lips, and others used the same guitar that originally made waves of reverb drenched singles by groups such as the Chantays and the Surfaris. One of the reasons the Jaguar became so immensely popular among artists is its particular sound and the possibilities offered by the bridge construction. The bridge and tremolo of the Jaguar and the Jazzmaster help produce sympathetic resonance. That's because of the considerable distance for strings between the bridge and the tailpiece. Some have even used that to play notes never imagined back in 1962.

Warmoth's popular Jaguar replacement body has the following specs:

The specs on Warmoth's replacement body:

  • Body fits 24" scale length neck
  • 1-3/4" thick solid construction
  • Universal pickup rout accommodates singles or humbuckers
  • Standard forearm and tummy contours
  • Must use a Warmoth pickguard

Do you have a Fender neck that needs a new home? Give it a new vibe by putting it on a new Jag body from Warmoth.

Who Touched My Custom Order?

Who Touched My Custom Order - Joe - Sanding Crew

In the spring of 2011, Joe Dillon moved from Oregon to Washington State to work at Warmoth with the sanding crew. Why did he move here? "I was working at Breedlove making acoustic guitars. I was also a Warmoth customer for electric guitar and bass parts. I talked to Warmoth about a job. It's been great working for a company that, as a customer, I already admired for their quality!"

In high school, Joe started building bass guitars. Why? The Warwick bass that he wanted was out of his price range. He built one bass (good), then a second (better), and a third (best), which he sold for $2000! Joe has been building and selling guitars and basses ever since. He is passionate about wood and music. Locally, he's known outside of Warmoth as the "go to" guy for extensive repairs on anything stringed and acoustic. Repair shops have even called upon his services.

Joe believes that the sanding crew is successful for five reasons:

  • Attention to detail
  • Understanding and balancing the needs of the company and customers
  • Everyone on the team shares ideas; the crew implements the best ones
  • The crew gets along really well

What does he do in his spare time? Spending time with the kids, hanging out with his family, playing electric bass or acoustic or mandolin, or recording music. If he could have any car, it would be a 1967 Alfa Romeo, Guilua Sprint GT, veloce vintage racecar. That makes sense when you understand the "newer is not always better" philosophy and classic approach to Joe's life.

Quilt and Flame Maple Tops with Dye Finishes

Quilt and Flame Dyes

How do we prepare your guitar or bass body for dye finishes? The process is first to put color dye on the raw wood, then apply a base coat application. Then, the body is lightly sanded. Finally the top coats are laid down before final sanding and buffing.

Do you have a terrific guitar or bass neck and you'd like to showcase it with one of the best looking bodies around? That would be one of our Quilt Top or Flame Maple Top bodies. We highlight many of those on Facebook as they complete construction and get put into our In Stock inventory. And it's not limited to maple.
